Croatia. More beautiful than I ever imagined. Part I.

It was by chance that a friend and I decided on Croatia for our main summer holiday. I wasn’t particularly fussy and was happy to go with the flow. We were both experiencing particularly manic work hours so holiday planning emails always went something along the lines of ‘I’m so sorry I haven’t had time to look into anything yet, but will try do so this weekend! xx’. Returned by a ‘Me too! I’m so sorry! xx’. This continued for months until June when we realized we were about to miss the boat on many of our accommodation options. So the next few weeks saw a flurry of emails backwards and forwards. Let me tell you – the most time being spent on figuring out Croatia’s ferry schedule!  Our plans changed daily as we realized we couldn’t get from one place to another on any given day.

Eventually we had the ferries waxed and a finalized itinerary which included 4 days for me to complete my adventure divers before we both went island hopping. Given such ad hoc planning, I don’t think either of us expected much… willing to accept our fate as a result of our last minute planning.  Unbeknown to us, we were about to embark on a magical journey through the Adriatic and all its magnificence. Blown away by it’s cleanliness, beauty and abundance of activities, we spent 12 days in denial that we would ever have to leave.

Our itinerary worked out as follows and I will try detail in separate posts the amazing beauty of each:

Fly into Split, 4 days in Vela Luka, 1 night in Hvar, 4 nights in Mljet, 2 nights in Dubrovnik.
